13 Adar 5783 |
The Fast of Esther |
Shemoth שמות ל"ג, י"ב-י"ז 33:12-17, Sefaria
12 Moses said to יהוה, “See, You say to me, ‘Lead this people forward,’ but You have not made known to me whom You will send with me. Further, You have said, ‘I have singled you out by name, and you have, indeed, gained My favor.’
13 Now, if I have truly gained Your favor, pray let me know Your ways, that I may know You and continue in Your favor. Consider, too, that this nation is Your people.”
14 And [God] said, “I will go in the lead and will lighten your burden.”
15 And he replied, “Unless You go in the lead, do not make us leave this place.
ט"ז וּבַמֶּ֣ה ׀ יִוָּדַ֣ע אֵפ֗וֹא כִּֽי־מָצָ֨אתִי חֵ֤ן בְּעֵינֶ֙יךָ֙ אֲנִ֣י וְעַמֶּ֔ךָ הֲל֖וֹא בְּלֶכְתְּךָ֣ עִמָּ֑נוּ וְנִפְלִ֙ינוּ֙ אֲנִ֣י וְעַמְּךָ֔ מִכׇּ֨ל־הָעָ֔ם אֲשֶׁ֖ר עַל־פְּנֵ֥י הָאֲדָמָֽה׃ {פ}
16 For how shall it be known that Your people have gained Your favor unless You go with us, so that we may be distinguished, Your people and I, from every people on the face of the earth?”
17 And יהוה said to Moses, “I will also do this thing that you have asked; for you have truly gained My favor and I have singled you out by name.”

My comment: Moshe Rabbenu received the commandment back towards the beginning of this book to free the people and bring them to the Land haShem promised them. In the above passage, He was so angry with our ancestors for worshiping the golden statue of a calf that He threatened to wipe them out and start all over again with Moshe. It shows Moshe's derekh eretz that he remembered what his mission was, and that he convinced haShem to stick with it, rather than abandon the people altogether. After all, how did he know that his descendants wouldn't do the same thing? And how long would this process go on; hasn't this gone on long enough? We are coming up to Am Yisrael's 3,335th birthday — see HERE - HDG

OH, GOD, if YOU gave and continue to give the Jewish People the favor YOU promised Moshe Rabbenu in the above passage, PLEASE SEND and REVEAL MASHIAH NOW!!!
***
Next year there will be two months of Adar! and be"H we will live and be well to see them with him!

* Make Geula: I got this term from Shmuel Sackett, HERE.
Just remember that those who followed Moshe out of the darkness of Egypt/Mitzrayim got to have the chance to go to the Land they were promised! And not everyone made it here...

Great Post, Hava.
Yes, only the grandchildren and some went with Yehoshua across the RIVER and entered into Eretz Canaan.
Those who crossed over were explicitly commanded to DRIVE OUT THE HEATHENS, not to leave one behind from whom to learn their abominable ways. We see those who left mitzrayim did not enter the Land, except for Joshua and Calev, who were much older than those they led into the Land.
I think we are so so close, but OTOH we cannot know the timetable of Hashem.
Rabbi Moshe Goldsmith (of Itamar) gave a very nice dvar Torah (about the matzav)
